Residents in Rose Hill now have access to a modernised and affordable gym at Rose Hill Community Centre following a comprehensive refurbishment of the fitness suite.
The facility has undergone a full overhaul, with all previous equipment replaced by state-of-the-art Matrix Fitness machines.
New additions include a Climb Mill, a Pec Dec, an Air Bike, a Glute Machine, and an Abs/Lower Back machine, among other upgrades.
The gym space itself has also been refreshed with new rubber flooring throughout.
The equipment upgrade cost £130,000, with the old machines collected and recycled through a buy-back scheme.
Oxford City Council said the investment reflects its commitment to helping residents lead healthier lives while keeping services affordable and accessible.
Councillor Mark Lygo, Cabinet Member for a Healthy, Fairer Oxford said: "Keeping active is vital for both physical and mental wellbeing, but we know that cost can be a barrier for many people. That's why it's so important we continue to invest in high-quality, low-cost facilities like Rose Hill Community Centre gym, giving residents access to affordable ways to stay healthy, close to home."
The £4.76m Rose Hill Community Centre opened in 2016 and, alongside the refreshed gym, features meeting and conference facilities, a social club, community library, advice centre, youth suite, an NHS Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, changing rooms and a ballroom.
