Knowsley Council has submitted a prior approval application to demolish the existing multi-storey car park in Huyton Village Centre as part of its wider regeneration plans.
If approved, the demolition would take place next year, making way for a new sustainable travel hub serving Huyton Village. The hub is expected to provide hundreds of short- and long-stay parking spaces, designated disabled bays and electric vehicle charging points, alongside upgraded lighting and security.
The scheme will also deliver better connections to Derby Road and improved access to Huyton's bus and rail stations.
The car park project forms part of a broader vision for Huyton Village Centre. The Council has already received the green light for a change of use to convert vacant units at Cavendish Walks into a community hub. Work is under way, with the hub due to open next year.
Further proposals include St Michael's Place, a mixed-use commercial district with office space and residential accommodation, and a new Village Green linking enhanced public spaces, an improved station gateway and high-quality public realm on Derby Road.
The demolition of the existing car park is being funded through the £19.1m secured via Homes England’s Brownfield, Infrastructure and Land fund.
