Keepmoat has begun work on two major housing developments in North Halifax that are set to deliver almost 250 new homes as part of Calderdale Council’s wider regeneration plans.
The schemes, now known as Fields Edge and Oaklands, form part of Calderdale Council’s North Halifax Transformation Programme and represent a combined investment of more than £50 million by the housebuilder.
Spanning three brownfield sites across Ovenden, Mixenden and Illingworth, the developments will bring much-needed housing to the area, including 53 affordable homes that will be managed through a local housing provider.
The projects have been supported by £7.8 million in funding from Homes England through its Brownfield, Infrastructure and Land (BIL) Grant programme, helping to unlock significant remediation and site preparation works needed to make the developments possible.
In addition to the housing investment, Keepmoat has pledged £1.4 million towards wider community projects across the country, supporting initiatives such as schools, healthcare, public transport and environmental improvements.
Warren Thompson, Regional Managing Director at Keepmoat Yorkshire West, said: "It's always an exciting moment when we break ground at a new development. At Keepmoat our goal is to build communities and transform the lives of local people and Fields Edge and Oaklands represent a key part of our long-term commitment to supporting North Halifax's regeneration ambitions.
"These brownfield sites have huge potential and working alongside the council and a local housing association is the perfect recipe to create something great. Alongside new housing, Keepmoat is investing in public open space, infrastructure and local connectivity."
As part of the wider regeneration programme, the developments will also include biodiversity enhancements, new public open spaces and tree planting, alongside supporting infrastructure and traffic-calming measures designed to improve connectivity and the local environment.
