Contractor Beard has begun the concluding stage of redevelopment at Brooklands Technical College in Surrey, breaking ground on a new inclusive learning centre.
The Vickers building will deliver specialist post-16 provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). With additional investment from Surrey County Council, the facility is planned to accommodate up to 260 learners.
Representatives from Beard's Guildford office and Brooklands Technical College gathered on site to mark the symbolic 'first dig', signalling the start of this final construction phase.
Tom Jenkinson, Beard Guildford Director, said: "We are proud to be working with Brooklands Technical College on the new Vickers building, a project that goes beyond construction. It's a privilege for our team to play a part in shaping a facility that will make such a meaningful difference to learners, families, and the wider community.”
Brooklands Technical College is widely recognised across Surrey for its dedicated SEND and Transition team. The new centre will support 16- to 24-year-olds in a safe, nurturing environment designed to help students thrive.
Beard was awarded the contract following its track record on education projects. The Vickers facility is scheduled to open next summer.
