Willmott Dixon joined representatives from The Mosslands School, the Department for Education (DfE) and Wirral Council to celebrate a key stage in construction of the new campus.
The ceremony brought the community together to recognise momentum on the redevelopment.
Attendees signed the latest steel beam before it was installed within the new three-storey secondary school. Designed to accommodate 1,500 pupils, the project’s programme targets completion in 2028, with guests able to see first-hand how the build is progressing.
Among those present were headteacher Adrian Whiteley and students; Sally Pearson, Deputy Director in the DfE's Capital Directorate; Wirral Council Deputy Leader Cllr Julie McManus; Dame Angela Eagle, MP for Wallasey; and Willmott Dixon's Managing Director for the North, Anthony Dillon.
Ellis Williams Architects has designed a modern, state-of-the-art learning environment across the 19-acre site, with flexible spaces to support high-quality teaching in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. The scheme also features two sports halls, a replacement all-weather pitch, a multi-use games area, plus new car parking and cycle storage. Existing buildings will be demolished once the new campus is complete.
The project was procured via the DfE Construction Framework High Value Band Lots 1 and 2 and is part of the DfE’s School Rebuilding Programme.
Supporting the DfE's and the school’s sustainability ambitions, the campus is being designed to be Net Zero Carbon in Operation, incorporating low‑carbon technologies such as photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps.
Anthony Dillon, Managing Director for the North at Willmott Dixon, said: "This steel signing marks an exciting milestone in the transformation of The Mosslands School and it was great to celebrate this achievement with the school, DfE, Willmott Dixon team and our project partners. Having students sign the steelwork that will form part of their new school highlights the lasting legacy this project will create. Throughout construction, we have been creating opportunities for the local community and helping young people develop the skills needed for future careers in construction."
