Trefusis Park Flood Relief Scheme Nears Completion

Construction News Image

Plymouth City Council has issued a final update on the Trefusis Park Flood Relief Scheme, confirming that the majority of works are complete.

Contractor Kier is no longer on site full-time. Remaining tasks over the coming weeks include installing a basketball hoop and throw lines (for water safety), completing new seating, and replacing the handrail from the top of the bund down to the basketball court.

A short stretch of hoop-top fencing also needs to be reinstated where the current Heras fencing is in the way. The Heras fencing will stay up during these finishing works to help the grass establish further. While a precise completion date is not yet confirmed, the Council expects the works to wrap up around mid-July, subject to subcontractors sourcing the materials required for the handrail replacement.

When the park reopens, visitors will see new signs for cycling and walking routes and water safety, alongside newly installed lifesaving equipment.

During periods of heavy rain, water will likely collect in the base of the main seasonal wetland basin. This area is designed to hold water up to 1.2m deep, so children and dogs should be kept under close control in bad weather. The basin releases water slowly, so levels will drop gradually once rain stops.

Further improvements are planned later this year, with the Council and the Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest set to carry out additional tree planting and landscaping. The signs in Trefusis Gardens that say "No Parking Please Use Car Park" and "Keep this turning area clear" will also be smartened up.
