Construction and Engineering Week 2025 got underway yesterday (23 September) at Lincolnshire Showground.

The event, which will run until 25 September, provides more than 1,500 school children, aged 10 to 18, with hands-on experience in key trades including carpentry, bricklaying, block paving, electrical and mechanical engineering, and virtual reality welding.

Tim Balcon, CEO of the Construction Industry Training Board, said: "It was inspiring and encouraging to see so many young people find such joy in learning about construction and engineering. It’s what Construction and Engineering Week is all about".

Now in its 21st year, the week is designed to introduce young people to careers in construction and engineering through practical, immersive experiences. Around 50 companies from across Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, and the Humber are taking part, showcasing the trades and career opportunities available in the industry. Many of these businesses are represented by apprentices and trainees who previously attended the event themselves.

The event is free for primary and secondary schools and is supported by the Industry Training Boards for construction and engineering (CITB and ECITB). It is organised by the Lincoln Group Training Association (LGTA) and Abbey Access Training, in partnership with local employers. Additional support is provided by Lindum Group, ARCO, LineTrain, and Greater Lincolnshire Careers Hub.
