Plans to build 168 new homes on Thaxted Road in Saffron Walden have been approved, paving the way for a major new housing development.
Chase New Homes has secured Reserved Matters Approval, allowing construction to begin on the 13-acre site. The project will feature a mix of property types, including 67 affordable homes, with work expected to start soon.
Chase New Homes first acquired the land in June 2023 and has since partnered with B3 Living to deliver the affordable housing element of the scheme. The development, located on the outskirts of Saffron Walden, will offer a range of properties, from one-bedroom apartments to spacious five-bedroom family homes.
The project aims to integrate traditional building materials with sustainable landscaping, and Chase New Homes has committed to additional community benefits, including highway improvements, new cycle pathways, and contributions to local education and healthcare services.
This marks the developer's second major project in Saffron Walden. Its nearby development, The Waldens, located on the former Friends School site on Mount Pleasant Road, has already attracted strong interest from buyers, offering a mix of restored period buildings and contemporary new homes.
With the latest approval in place, Thaxted Road is set to become a thriving new neighbourhood, addressing local housing demand while enhancing community infrastructure.
