A ceremonial tile signing has marked a major milestone in the restoration of the historic Pippbrook House, as roof-level works near completion on the Grade II* listed building in Dorking.
Chair of Mole Valley District Council (MVDC), Councillor Roger Adams, led the event, joined by a host of guests including Leader of MVDC Councillor Bridget Kendrick, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Community Assets Councillor Nick Wright, and representatives from local organisations such as Dorking Museum, Dorking Halls, Community Hub in Dorking (CHiP) and The Priory School.
The signed slate tiles will be installed on the roof of the Great Hall leaving a lasting legacy of this moment in the building's restoration.
Councillor Nick Wright said: "To follow the progress of the works to date has been both inspiring and educating, and we are delighted this complex roof-level stage is near completion, both within budget and on schedule.
"Following the recent Cabinet approval to release the remaining £200,000 of allocated funding (to address internal repairs to water-damaged rooms), the next stage of the project promises to bring closer our aim of returning this valued building to active use, through the skills and experience of the team at Dorking Halls.
"With a Grade II listing comes responsibility, and we are committed to bringing this unique heritage asset back into active use. As part of this, we continue to engage in conversations with community groups including CHiP (who run PippFest), Dorking Museum and various others who share our common goal."
