Families are preparing to move into four newly completed houses for affordable rent at the Malthouse Meadows development in West Sompting, Adur.
The latest handover marks a key milestone in the delivery of high-quality, energy-efficient homes aimed at addressing local housing needs.
The four family-sized properties have been transferred to Worthing Homes for social rent, supporting efforts to reduce Adur District Council's housing waiting list. Each home features spacious gardens and access to nature walks, play areas, and a community orchard that form part of the wider Malthouse Meadows scheme.
Currently in Phase 1, the development will bring a total of 96 homes to the area. Of these, 30 are allocated as affordable housing, including eight for shared ownership and 22 for social rent.
Planning approval for Phase 2 was granted by Adur District Council last month, paving the way for 20 additional social rent homes and seven shared ownership properties. Further social rent homes are also planned in Phase 3 of the development.
Cllr Lee Cowen, Executive Member for Housing at Adur District Council, visited the site last week to view the new homes and praised the collaborative approach: "I welcome this partnership working between Persimmon Homes and Worthing Homes. Together we are working to tackle the housing crisis locally and offer high-quality new homes to families in need in Adur.
"This development offers considerable areas of open space and links to the existing neighbourhood, which are positive signs we are creating a cohesive community here."
