Wates Appointed To £400m Leeds Project

Wates has been appointed as principal contractor on a £400m mixed-use development in Leeds.

The firm and a team of contractors will deliver the first phase of the Kirkstall Forge scheme for developer Commercial Estates Group (CEG).

The project has been designed by architects Cooper Cromar.

The 57 acre site will comprise of 1,050 new homes, 300,000 sq ft of offices and 100,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and community space.

Phase one of works involves the development of a 15,534 sq m seven-storey office building.

Work is to start on site in 2016, with completion expected in spring 2017.

Planning permission was secured by Nathanial Lichfield and Partners on behalf of CEG.

Wates will also deliver CEG and Leeds City Council's vocational training programme, giving teenagers as young as 14 the opportunity to work alongside developers, builders, architects and engineers, which will lead to apprenticeship opportunities.
