GRAHAM Moves Forward With Transformation Of Fallowfield Campus

Construction firm GRAHAM is making strong progress on the University of Manchester's flagship Fallowfield Campus redevelopment, working as part of the Viridis Consortium alongside partners Equitix and Derwent FM.

Following the demolition of the iconic Owens Park Tower, the project has now entered its next phase of construction. Once complete, the redevelopment will deliver 3,300 modern, sustainable student bedspaces, enhanced amenity areas, and landscaped green spaces. The masterplan will form five distinctive residential neighbourhoods and a vibrant central hub, celebrating the area’s rich heritage while significantly raising the standard of student accommodation.

The project is a core part of the University's Residences Redevelopment Programme, aligning with its strategic goals to modernise and enhance the student experience across its campuses. Designed by Sheppard Robson and supported by Deloitte, the scheme is targeting Passivhaus standards and BREEAM Excellent certification, reflecting the University's commitment to environmental sustainability.

Neil McFarlane, Strategic Development Director at GRAHAM Investment Projects, said: "The commencement of the enabling works phase of this transformational University of Manchester project is a major milestone. The enabling works process involves preparing the site for the subsequent construction of the buildings at the Fallowfield Campus. Close collaboration with the University, our development partner, Equitix, architect, Sheppard Robson, and planning consultants, Deloitte, has been key to reaching this pivotal stage of the project. High quality design and sustainability principles have been embedded into every aspect of the scheme, which is arguably the largest purpose built student accommodation (PBSA) project in Europe. We now look forward to achieving full planning approval, and then beginning the main works construction programme in 2026."
