A new neighbourhood on the southern edge of Trumpington village in Cambridge has moved a step closer.
A planning application for 286 new homes on the Glebe Farm development has been agreed, subject to finalising a legal agreement with the developers, Countryside Properties.
The Glebe Farm development, situated on land east of Hauxton Road, north of Addenbrooke's Access Road and south of Bishop’s Road in Cambridge, is the first of a number of new developments on the southern fringe of Cambridge to receive detailed planning permission. Forty per cent of the new homes at Glebe Farm will be affordable housing and the developer is set to contribute over £4.2 million towards local transport, education and community infrastructure.
Peter Studdert, Director of Joint Planning for Cambridge's Growth Areas, said: "This is a major step forward in providing much-needed new homes for Cambridge, and we are particularly pleased to secure 40% affordable housing. An enormous amount of work has gone in to the scheme design. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Countryside Properties' design team to ensure that the high aspirations that we have all set are delivered on the ground. We expect to be able to finalise the legal agreement and issue the planning permission within the next month."
The development will be served by the new Addenbrooke’s Access Road. Work is expected to start on the Glebe Farm site later this year, with the first homes likely to be completed by late 2011.
