Stanground Primary School Discussed

Residents are invited to discuss plans for a new primary school in south Stanground at a public meeting taking place at St Michael's church hall, Mace Road, Stanground, Peterborough, on Thursday 21 January 2010 at 7pm.

A 1.2 hectare site is set aside as part of the development of south Stanground for a new primary school. As part of the section 106 funding agreement Persimmon Homes is providing £2.3 million to provide the new school.

At the public meeting residents will be able to find out more about the process for planning and building the school and will also be asked what features they would like the new school to have.

A 'competition stage' will then begin where organisations will be asked to submit bids to build and run the school. The council is legally required to do this as set out in the Education and Inspection Act 2006.

Jonathan Lewis, Peterborough City Council's Assistant Director for resources within children's services, said: "We are at a very early stage in the process of providing a primary school for the Stanground south development. At this stage we want to inform people of our intentions to provide a primary school at this site and the process this will take. We also want to ask people for their opinions on what kind of school the community requires."
