Ecocem has received a major boost in the French market with the approval of a Technical Evaluation of Products and Materials (Evaluation Technique de Produits et Matériaux, or ETPM) for ACT1, the first version of its cutting-edge scalable cement technology.
Issued by France's Scientific and Technical Centre for Building (CSTB), the ETPM certifies the mechanical performance and durability of concrete produced with ACT1, validating its compliance with Eurocodes, the European structural design standards. Though voluntary, the assessment marks a critical step toward widespread adoption of ACT1 in French construction, paving the way for its use on building sites nationwide.
The ETPM provides a robust scientific and technical foundation ahead of a more advanced evaluation — the Appréciation Technique d’Expérimentation (ATEx) — due in the second half of 2025. This will assess ACT1's performance in structural applications such as walls, columns, beams, slabs, infrastructure, and shallow foundations.
"To guarantee the swift deployment of our ACT technology in the French market, it was essential that Ecocem opted for the most relevant national technical assessments," said Christian Clergue, Director of Product Development and Standardisation at Ecocem. "This assessment provides clear evidence of ACT1’s workability, durability, safety and strength, demonstrating it is safe to use across the construction ecosystem."
Earlier in 2024, Ecocem obtained a European Technical Evaluation (ETE) for ACT, allowing for CE marking. However, to support a faster rollout in France, the company has taken a dual approach, combining pan-European recognition with national certification via CSTB.
Together, the ETPM and upcoming ATEx evaluations offer project owners, contractors, insurers, and regulatory authorities a well-documented assurance of ACT1’s suitability, accelerating its integration into new and existing construction projects.
ACT1 is the first iteration of Ecocem's ACT platform — a breakthrough technology capable of reducing the carbon footprint of cement production by up to 70%. Future versions of the technology will undergo similar assessments to ensure consistent regulatory compliance across Europe.
