A new £7 million residential and community care centre due to be finished early next year will have a bright future thanks to local school pupils.

The new Derbyshire County Council centre is being built in Middlecroft, Staveley, and construction work is set to be finished by next February.

It is hoped that it will open its doors to older people and be fully operational by next spring.

Pupils at nearby Springwell Community School were approached earlier this year to come up with ideas as to how to brighten up a long fence between the school building and the new residential and community care centre (RCCC) and have been working on a mural.


Year 11 pupils taking BTEC Art and Design were given the project and are working with the theme 'All Things Bright and Beautiful', researching plants, flowers, animals, birds and butterflies to ensure a colourful display.

The mural will be unveiled at the official opening of the RCCC by the pupils.

Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Adult Care Councillor Charles Jones said: "Building work on the new residential and community care centre is really coming on well and we are pleased with the progress.

"It is on schedule to be handed over to us in February and we are hoping to welcome residents and people using the new day services as soon as next spring."
