Amec, the international engineering and project management company, is to create more than 300 highly-skilled jobs in its Clean Energy Europe business, which is based in the north west of England.
The drive, which will focus on the company's nuclear business, aims to bring in a wide range of disciplines, including safety consultants, project managers and mechanical and electrical engineers.
The news was welcome by the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt Hon George Osborne MP, in whose Tatton, Cheshire, constituency Amec's Clean Energy Europe business is headquartered.
"The creation of over 300 new jobs by Amec's Clean Energy Europe Business is great news, offering exciting new opportunities to engineers, graduates and apprentices. These are exactly the kind of highly skilled jobs we need in this country," said Mr Osborne.
"The government has just announced the go ahead for a new nuclear power station in the UK and I hope this will create more opportunities for companies like Amec to expand and grow."
Clive White, President of Amec's Clean Energy Europe business, said: "This reflects the growth of our nuclear business, not only in the UK but across the wider Europe.
"We have already created around 250 jobs across the business so far this year and are planning to increase those numbers by a further 300 in the months to come."
