Work Starts On Learning Disabilities Building

Work has started on a new building which will boost services for people with learning disabilities in Derbyshire.

The £2.4 million two-storey building is being built in Alfreton Park, Alfreton, by Derbyshire County council and will be used to provide short breaks for adults with learning disabilities, respite for family carers and rehabilitation.

A lifestyle support service will also be run from the new building, where adults with learning disabilities will be able to stay and learn skills to help them live independently, like cooking and shopping.

It is hoped the new building, which is on the same site as the county council's Parkwood Centre, will be open by early 2010.
