Energy company E.ON has given an £8,500 grant under its SOURCE community initiative towards the cost of installing air source heat pumps at The Christie Hall in Wansford.
The Hall is a registered charity which provides community facilities to the villages of Stibbington, Thornhaugh and Wansford, and is regularly used by dance, yoga and pilates groups, the WI, the Royal British Legion, as well as for other village events.
The cash will be used to help pay for buying and installing air source heat pumps, which absorb heat from the air to heat the building, as well as for the replacement of obsolete electric heaters by fan convectors and radiators.
Tony Jenkin Jones, Community Relations Executive with E.ON, said: "We're delighted to be able to contribute towards this exciting project for The Christie Hall as part of our SOURCE scheme, which is designed to help community groups get their sustainable energy projects off the ground.
"They're looking to replace their existing energy inefficient heating system, to minimise their impact on the environment, and to make significant cost savings."
It is expected that the air source heat pumps will reduce the hall's carbon dioxide emissions by up to 75%, as well as raise the awareness of new and renewable energy technologies amongst the local community.
