Key redevelopment projects at Central Library and Peterscourt, part of the wider Vine Towns Fund initiative, are set to move forward as Cabinet prepares to review an update and approve contracts at a meeting on 15 July.
The update outlines the final phase of the £25 million Vine project, which is part of the government's Towns Fund programme, supporting eight regeneration schemes across Peterborough. Cabinet is being asked to approve a series of recommendations, including the award of construction and refurbishment contracts for both sites.
The Vine project spans three locations: Central Library, Peterscourt, and the Goods Shed at Fletton Quays. Together, they aim to create a vibrant hub for residents, visitors, and entrepreneurs, bringing together cultural, business, and leisure uses across the city centre.
If approved, the works will include:
• Refurbishment of the ground floor at Central Library to deliver a modern, digitally focused library service.
• Transformation of part of Peterscourt into flexible workspace, including start-up and maker spaces for small businesses.
• Revitalisation of the Goods Shed, a derelict former railway building, into a unique food and drink hall.
The Vine is designed to foster community engagement, drive local economic growth, and create inclusive public spaces. Key aims of the initiative include:
• Enhancing the city's library offer through improved digital services.
• Supporting business development through incubator and co-working space.
• Establishing a distinctive food and drink destination.
• Providing new educational and community facilities.
