Danestone Primary School in Aberdeen is opening its doors to encourage parents and community groups to get involved in its activities.

The traditional open day goes ahead every spring and involves the whole school, parents, retired staff, carers, and friends, who also have the chance to join children at work.

This year, the event will feature a special Eco Day to motivate people to "think green" and put eco-issues at the top of their agenda.


The Eco/Open Day will take place on 4 March, between 9.30-11.30am and 1.30-3pm at the school on Fairview Brae.

Pupils will be working on a variety of eco-themed lessons. Some classes will swap CDs and sell books as a mean of recycling.

Danestone's hall will be used for special eco-activities such as eco-mascot judging, singing, a violin recital, and pupils’ presentations. Handmade and fairtrade items will be on sale.

Info stands will also be available. 'Waste Aware' will provide information about recycling and the energy-saving advice group SCARF’ will give advice about energy efficiency.
