Passengers using Petts Wood station in south east London are being advised to prepare for changes to station access as essential refurbishment work on the station's footbridge begins in August 2025.
The major upgrade project, aimed at extending the life of the footbridge and ensuring it remains safe for public use, will begin on Monday 18 August 2025 and take place in three key stages, with completion scheduled for 30 March 2026.
• Stage 1: 18 August – 27 October 2025
The western approach to the footbridge will be closed. During this phase, passengers will not be able to access the bridge from the west side. Instead, they will need to enter the station via the main entrance and use the lifts or stairs to reach the platforms, including Platform 1.
• Stage 2: 27 October 2025 – 12 January 2026
The central section of the footbridge will be closed. There will be no through access between Platforms 1 and 4 and Platforms 2 and 3. Passengers will need to use the western entrance to access Platforms 1 and 2, and the main station entrance to reach Platforms 3 and 4.
• Stage 3: 12 January – 30 March 2026
The main station entrance will be closed completely. All platforms will need to be accessed via the western entrance only.
Throughout the work, clear detour signage will be in place, and step-free diversion routes will be available to assist passengers with reduced mobility.
Accessibility Support During Works
To support those who need help moving between platforms during the footbridge closures, a taxi service will be provided. Passengers requiring assistance should speak to a member of station staff, who will arrange for a taxi to transport them to the appropriate side of the station. The taxi service will only operate during station opening hours.
The station building and ticket office will remain open and accessible throughout the project.
Passengers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys during the refurbishment period.
