Manuela Perteghella, MP for Stratford-upon-Avon, has visited Severn Trent’s Milcote Sewage Treatment Works to learn more about the complex processes involved in wastewater treatment and see firsthand how a major infrastructure upgrade is progressing.
The Milcote site, which serves approximately 70,000 people across Stratford and neighbouring villages, is currently benefiting from an £11 million investment as part of Severn Trent’s Green Recovery programme.
The upgrade includes the introduction of cutting-edge Tertiary Solids Removal (TSR) technology at the final stage of the treatment process. The addition is designed to significantly improve the quality of water before it is returned to the natural environment.
During her tour, the MP was shown the full end-to-end treatment process and noted the dramatic transformation of wastewater from its entry point to its final, cleaned state.
She said: "The visit to the Milcote site was very insightful and learning about the work that goes into the treatment process was very interesting. It was lovely to meet the dedicated team who work there.
"I was shown innovative solutions like the TSR technology to further improve water quality. I also discussed planning and sewerage infrastructure, a concern of many constituents."
The visit also included discussions around how Severn Trent is adapting its services to meet future population growth and address increasing demands on local infrastructure.
