Work on the Olympic Stadium is due to commence three months earlier than original estimations.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Olympic Delivery Authority Chief Executive, David Higgins confirmed that construction would now get underway in April or May 2008.
"The quicker we start the more time we have to ensure completion in an effective time to allow the test events to happen in 2011," said Mr Higgins
The design of the £496 million stadium will be officially unveiled on Wednesday.
It was originally expected to cost £280 million when London set its budget in 2004.
However, that figure has risen dramatically, mainly due to inflation and the fact that VAT was not factored into the original bill.
Mr Higgins added that he was confident there would be no further rise in building costs.
