Yorkshire Water has begun work to upgrade equipment at the Ecclesall Road and Granville Road combined storm overflows (CSOs) in Sheffield.
The works involve installing new mechanical screens, kiosks and control panels, alongside upgrades to mechanical and engineering instrumentation, to improve the performance of both sites.
The company has worked with Sheffield Council's highways teams to schedule activity during the school summer holidays to keep disruption to a minimum, and is contacting nearby residents and businesses with updates on progress.
Lumi Ajayi, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: "Investing in our storm overflows is an important part of improving the resilience of our network. This scheme will help ensure the system continues to operate effectively during periods of heavy rainfall."
Contract partner Galliford Try is delivering the work on both overflows, with completion expected by the end of August.
