Two Cardiff based building companies have been wound up by the High Court, following an investigation by Companies Investigation Branch (CIB) of the Insolvency Service.
Whitestone Management Limited (“Whitestone”), began trading in late 2003, and was a successor to a number of previous building companies.
The company had undertaken a number of large projects, including a hotel refurbishment in Barry and the construction of units at Eastgate Industrial Park, Cardiff, when it was placed in administration during August 2006. It left behind in its wake an estimated deficiency of £591,000.
Preceding the demise of Whitestone, Whitestone Multi Utilities Limited (“Multi Utilities”) had been formed and had negotiated to undertake a contract for the construction of a temporary ice rink in Cardiff City Council.
CIB’s investigations revealed serious concerns that Stephen Baber had played a prominent management role in both companies. Mr Baber had previously been disqualified from acting as a company director and also had criminal conviction for managing a company whilst disqualified.
Registrar Rawson sitting in the High Court commented whilst winding the companies up, that this was “absolutely outrageous behaviour.”
