Winvic has announced the completion of its fourth project under the Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) highways framework, delivering major improvements to the Carholme Road and A46/A57 Roundabout in Lincoln.
The scheme marks another milestone in the contractor's ongoing partnership with LCC to upgrade key transport routes across the county.
Valued at £1.9 million, the project forms part of a wider programme aimed at improving traffic flow, safety, and long-term infrastructure resilience around Lincoln. The works covered complex civil engineering upgrades along Carholme Road—from Nelson Street to the A57 Saxilby Road—and on the westbound carriageway of the A46 at Carholme Roundabout, including several adjoining side roads.
Over the four-and-a-half-month construction period, Winvic carried out extensive resurfacing, drainage installation, and pavement reconstruction. To keep disruption to a minimum for residents, businesses, and road users, all work was delivered in phases under a carefully managed traffic plan, with clear communication maintained throughout.
In total, the team installed 290 metres of new drainage, 41 new gullies, replaced 250 metres of kerbs and channels, resurfaced 9,000m² of carriageway, and built 800m² of new footway. Three uncontrolled pedestrian crossings— including those at Gresham Street and Staunton Street—were also refurbished to improve accessibility and safety for the local community.
The project delivered strong community benefits, with around 25% of the workforce drawn from Lincolnshire. Winvic also provided opportunities for a local graduate and two apprentices, one of whom gained practical engineering experience while studying Civil Engineering at Lincoln College.
Community engagement extended beyond the construction works. Winvic partnered with Lincolnshire County Council on two local volunteering projects, supporting a church gardening initiative and the Timberland Village community space. The team also donated food supplies to the Lincoln Foodbank.
