Roger Bullivant Delivers Piling Works For Taylor Wimpey

Leading UK foundation engineering company Roger Bullivant Limited (RBL) has delivered piling works for Taylor Wimpey on the latest phase of its major Drakelow Park residential development in Burton-on-Trent.

Following the successful delivery of piling and foundation solutions for Vistry Group over the past three years, RBL has been appointed to install over 1,000 Driven Precast Concrete piles to support Taylor Wimpey's delivery of 68 new homes. The works have been completed within a six-week programme.

This latest contract builds on RBL's extensive experience at Drakelow, where the company has already installed over 7,000 driven piles across multiple phases.

"This is a continuation of a strong working relationship with Taylor Wimpey," said Nathan Sale, South Central Pre-Construction Manager at RBL. "Our in-depth knowledge of the site, combined with our proven track record here, allowed us to recommend the most cost-effective solution."

The ground conditions at Dracan Village are highly variable, comprising made ground, clays, and weathered Mercia Mudstone. RBL's Driven Precast Concrete piles were selected as the most economical and technically suitable solution for these challenging conditions.

Driven Precast Concrete Piles offer a range of benefits that make them ideal for large-scale residential developments like Drakelow. Manufactured off-site in controlled environments, they ensure consistent quality and reduce on-site waste. Their rapid installation process minimises programme durations and disruption, while their displacement method avoids the need for spoil removal, making them a cleaner, more sustainable choice. With no curing time required, they also allow for immediate follow-on works, helping developers stay on schedule and within budget.

The works also mark one of the first uses of RBL's new 5509 driven piling rig, designed in-house to deliver quieter, cleaner, and more efficient piling operations.

The Drakelow development holds special significance for RBL, as the site was once home to the company's 250-acre head office and manufacturing facility. The project has grown and RBL have delivered a significant number of foundations, comprising over 52,700 metres of pile and 24,000 linear metres of RBeam installed to date.
