University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust has appointed Galliford Try to build a new primary care centre in Burton-upon-Trent and overhaul urgent and emergency access at Royal Derby Hospital — the contractor's fifth consecutive scheme for the Trust.

Under the ProCure22 (P22) framework, the Outwoods Primary Care Centre will increase GP and community healthcare capacity for the growing Outwoods and north Burton population. The purpose-built facility is intended to modernise services and improve access to essential care for local residents.

In parallel, the Acute Front Door Redesign (AFDR) at Royal Derby Hospital is part of a wider programme to reshape how patients enter and move through urgent and emergency care. The project will reconfigure the hospital's existing emergency access to boost capacity and improve patient flow, creating a single front door for ambulatory Emergency Department (ED) and Urgent Treatment Centre patients.

Planned enhancements include expanded space for urgent and emergency care and improved mental health provision.

The latest commission deepens the partnership between Galliford Try and the Trust, following recognition at the Constructing Excellence Midlands East Awards last year, where the Florence Nightingale Community Diagnostic Centre won the Retrofit Award.
