A major new cargo hub at Newcastle Airport, named AirLink, could generate up to £165 million annually for the North East economy and create thousands of jobs, significantly boosting the region's logistics and supply chain capabilities.

The 750,000 sq ft site will serve as a key hub for cargo operators, freight forwarders, and ground handling agents. Developed in partnership with Naylors Gavin Black, the project was officially unveiled at MIPIM, a global property and investment conference held in Cannes, France. The event gathered top investors, developers, and business officials, providing a platform to showcase the North East’s strong investment potential.

The development is located south of the airport runway, offering direct apron access for swift loading and unloading of cargo from aircraft. This makes it an ideal location for businesses handling time-sensitive shipments, such as pharmaceuticals, auto parts, and other high-priority deliveries.

The site's transport links, particularly its proximity to the A1, will ensure efficient distribution across the UK and beyond.

Once completed, AirLink could directly generate up to 1,400 jobs, with an additional 1,200 roles expected through the supply chain and business partnerships. The new hub is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting the airport’s expanding cargo operations, which saw a record high of over 6,000 tonnes handled in 2024.

The search for businesses to occupy the site is already underway, with a planning application set to be submitted later this year.
