Building work has commenced on 14 new modern one-bedroom apartments at Ludwick Green in Welwyn Garden City.
The apartments are being developed as part of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council's (WHBC) Affordable Housing Programme, and its commitment to building new social and affordable homes.
Ludwick Green originally had eight homes on site, but these had to be decommissioned because of structural issues. The new scheme, which will involve the demolition of the current building, will include two wheel chair user apartments. Each apartment will have its own parking space with EV charging points available. The new homes are close to amenities and works will be undertaken to enhance the surrounding green spaces. The project is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2026. The properties will be owned by the Council and let as social housing.
Welwyn Hatfield Mayor, Councillor Frank Marsh and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Lynn Chesterman OBE, joined WHBC Executive Member for Housing, Councillor Gemma Moore, Executive Member for Planning, Councillor Rose Grewal and WHBC Chief Executive, Ka Ng today, 29 November, for a tour of the Ludwick Green site and a briefing on the new development by Boom Construction Ltd, the construction company that are building the apartments.
Councillor Moore said: "The delivery of social housing is a priority for the Council, so it was great to visit Ludwick Green and find out more about this important development. The new apartments will provide modern, good quality affordable homes for local residents and are an example of our commitment to providing high-quality homes for all."
