Essential Beach Maintenance Work To Start At Greenhill

Construction News Image
Dorset Council is to carry out essential beach maintenance at Greenhill from Monday 16 January.

A section of the beach at Greenhill Gardens – from the Seascape Café heading south towards the Beach Café at the end of Brunswick Terrace – will be closed to the public while the work is ongoing.

The work is expected to take one week to complete and during this time, the beach will be closed to the public to allow the heavy machinery to operate safely. Access to the promenade will be unaffected.

Cllr Ray Bryan, Dorset Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment, Travel and Environment, said: "We know that many local people and visitors value and use the promenade regularly for lots of different reasons, which is why it's important we carry out regular maintenance to ensure it stays in good condition. Despite the inclement weather we're having so far this year, this area continues to see high footfall and we’re grateful for people’s understanding while we undertake this essential work."

Without the maintenance work, the foundations of the seawall could be undermined by the action of the waves which in turn would cause significant damage to the promenade over time.
