Wates Residential business has awarded £45,000 in funding to seven grassroots organisations in Brent through its newly launched Community Chest initiative.
The programme is designed to support small, community-led projects that address pressing local needs such as social isolation, youth services, mental health and employment support.
Each organisation received a tailored amount of funding based on the scope of their proposal and the expected impact on the local community.
The Community Chest is part of Wates' wider commitment to delivering social value in Brent alongside the Wembley Housing Zone, a regeneration programme in partnership with Brent Council that will deliver 291 new homes. Over the next two and a half years, Wates will distribute £300,000 through the Community Chest, with further investment planned in education, employment, and broader community initiatives.
In its first round, the fund is expected to benefit over 1,100 people through a diverse range of projects. These include multilingual health clinics, youth engagement sessions, creative training for women, climate education, volunteer development, and support for children from non-English speaking households. One initiative will also divert approximately 500kg of waste from landfill.
Applications for the next round of Community Chest funding are set to open in Q4 2025. The exact date will be announced via Wates' website and social media channels, with submissions to be made through the ActionFunder platform.
