Network Rail (Wales and Borders) has commenced a major programme of engineering works across key rail routes in South Wales, aimed at maintaining and improving the safety and reliability of the region's railway network.
Running from Saturday 2 August to Monday 11 August, the works will focus on track renewals, drainage improvements and other essential maintenance. These upgrades are part of Network Rail’s ongoing efforts to ensure a dependable service for both passengers and freight operators.
The engineering programme will affect the following areas:
• Dynevor Junction to Morlais Junction
• Jersey Marine to Hendy
• Llangyfelach Tunnel and surrounding track sections
• Penllergaer Tunnel to Grovesend
Key activities include track renewals through Llangyfelach Tunnel and sections between Dynevor Junction and Felin Fran Junction, as well as drainage and track upgrades between Grovesend and Penllergaer.
The improvements are designed to enhance track reliability, deliver smoother journeys, and reduce the risk of service disruption. They will also strengthen the network's resilience to extreme weather events.
