Morgan Sindall Construction has reached practical completion of an £11 million extra care development in Seacroft, Leeds for Lovell Later Living.
Greenmill Gardens is a 64-apartment extra care development Lovell Later Living is delivering in partnership with Leeds County Council for Home Group, with Morgan Sindall Construction serving as contractor.
The scheme will provide much needed self-contained one- and two-bedroom extra care housing apartments dedicated to the needs of older people in Leeds and offering vital services and facilities to the surrounding area, ensuring families and social networks from the local community can stay within close vicinity of one another.
When opened later this year, Greenmill Gardens will provide access to 24/7 onsite personal care and support for residents to live independently in their own home and will offer a number of facilities including a café, hair & beauty salon and communal gardens, for the use of residents, as well as people from the local community.
Forming part of Leeds City Council multi-million-pound specialist housing programme, this scheme is key to assisting Leeds City Council's plans to hit its target of delivering 1,000 high quality new extra care dwellings across the city centre by 2028.
As a result of Morgan Sindall Construction’s delivery of the project, £2.66 has gone back into the local economy for every £1 spent. 98% of the company’s supply chain were SMEs, while the project welcomed 12 apprentices, two undergraduate placements, and seven work experience placements, two of whom were ex-armed forces.
20 educational engagement activities were delivered and the project team spent 185 hours volunteering for local causes. Morgan Sindall Construction and its supply chain also completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks, raising £2,000 for the Home Group Fund.
Additionally, the project saw 99% diversion of waste from landfill and 58 tonnes of carbon were saved through the use of HVO fuel.
Mark Lazenby, operations director for Morgan Sindall Construction in Yorkshire and North East, said: "We're very pleased to have completed our work on this brilliant project for Leeds. During our build programme we’ve delivered a range of social value initiatives that have had a significant economic and social impact on the local community. When opened later this year, the importance of Greenmill Gardens to the people of Leeds will be significant – we can't wait."
