Plans for the regeneration of Pendleton in Salford have moved forward.
On Monday 8 August recommendations on the next phases of development were discussed and agreed at Salford City Council’s Property and Regeneration meeting.
The agreement means that the council and Pendleton Together can work up final proposals and costs that will be put into a final report which will to go back to a future meeting for full approval.
Initial proposals include 575 new family homes, 173 new affordable homes and a developing plan for an extra care scheme. Extra care schemes encourage independent living with specialist 24 hour care and support for those people who require it and additional provision is much needed to meet demand.
The regeneration of Pendleton started in 2013 when the council entered into a long-term partnership to deliver £250million of development, including new homes, parks and public space.
The council has cleared approximately 700 outdated council properties to provide sites for future development.
A spokesperson at Salford City Council said: "It is fantastic news that the regeneration of Pendleton is continuing and we are delighted to formally approve the recommendations today.
"New family homes and affordable homes are desperately needed in this city as we have approximately 6,000 households on our housing waiting lists.
"Each phase of previous development in the area has exceeded the target of 30% of affordable homes and we are incredibly proud of that.
"As the regeneration continues it creates jobs and opportunities that local people can benefit from. So what is derelict land will soon be a new neighbourhood with high quality homes for local people to live in and enjoy."
