Construction firm Galliford Try has been selected to a £10.7m refurbishment contract for Cornerstone School on behalf of London Borough of Bexley, through the Department of Education Construction Framework.
Catering for pupils aged between eleven to nineteen who have ‘associated Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)’, the project will provide places for 90 pupils on behalf of the Trinitas Academy Trust to develop and support their cognitive and emotional needs in an accessible environment.
The scheme includes part new-build and part refurbishment will include general teaching areas and specialist classrooms in a new two-storey building, a spacious dining hall and a brand-new multi-use games area.
As one of the leading education contractors, Galliford Try's Building Southern business is growing a strong portfolio for SEND Schools following from the success of the Cleeve Meadow school and most recently The Avenue in Brent. The Cornerstone School project will continue to build on the existing relationship within the London Borough of Bexley and further promote inclusivity within the community.
Claire Jackson, Education Director for Galliford Try, said: "Creating the right environment for pupils to thrive and reach their full potential is vital in all educational establishments, but particularly for SEND schools. We are thrilled to be working on this project and will continue to work with all the stakeholders to design and build effective solutions that meet the requirements for SEND settings and promote inclusion."
