Galliford Try has completed work on Hexham Middle School and Queen Elizabeth High School in Northumberland.

The occasion was marked by a special visit from Secretary of State for Education, Nadhim Zahawi MP local MP Guy Opperman MP who took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The £38 million project joins together the two schools on one site, creating a high quality and welcoming environment that will benefit the students and surrounding community. The schools combine the very best of modern educational facilities in a sustainable setting, blended with the existing buildings on the site.

To ensure the history behind the Grade II-listed Hydro building on the site was retained, the new education campus was developed to its rear and includes new sports facilities that are also open to the community with clear cycling and segregated vehicular circulation.

Jeremy Barnett, Operations Director at Galliford Try, who attended the event on behalf of the business, said: "It was fantastic to be part of a ceremony that showcased to the Education Secretary the high-quality learning environment we have created at Hexham. The official opening was a great event and we hope that students, staff and the local community benefit from these facilities for years to come."
