NG Bailey's Engineering division has been appointed to deliver a £5.3m installation of new mechanical and electrical (M&E) services for a new Urgent and Emergency Care Department for Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
It is the eighth project that we have delivered for the Chesterfield Trust in partnership with Integrated Healthcare Projects (IHP – a joint-venture between Vinci Construction and Sir Robert McAlpine) on the Procure 21+ healthcare framework.
This collaborative partnership at Chesterfield Royal Hospital started in 2013 with a major operating theatre refurbishment programme and other schemes delivered include a new endoscopy and medical records departments, an extension to the emergency department and a new MRI suite.
A team of our engineers, including apprentices, will be on site this month to deliver the new two-storey development that includes an Urgent Treatment Centre for minor injuries, as well as defined areas for paediatric care, major injuries and medical emergencies.
The high-voltage infrastructure diversion works have already been delivered by Freedom, our power engineering specialists.
Modern Methods of Construction will be widely used with many of the service installations – including heavy duty service modules, plant room skids, and plant room frames - being manufactured at the company's specialist offsite manufacturing facility. By using offsite construction techniques, NG Bailey is able to speed up the manufacture and installation of equipment and reduce the impact of the works on the wider hospital estate.
The new Urgent and Emergency Care Department will also incorporate a range of energy-saving measures, including high-efficiency heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, presence-controlled LED lighting systems, and high-efficient heat recovery systems.
The project also includes building a new paediatric assessment unit (PAU) alongside the Royal's Nightingale Children’s Unit with these works having to be carefully phased to maintain the clinical services operational throughout.
