Work has started on a new £8 million 'affordable' housing development in Cornwall.

A total of 75 new homes are being built on land near to Nansloe Primary School in Helston.

Mi-space, part of the Midas Group, is carrying out initial site preparation works for the development and the first properties are due to become available early next year.

Up to £2.3m of funding has been provided towards the scheme by Homes England, which is being developed by independent not-for-profit housing association Coastline Housing.

David Pengelly, Operations Manager for Mi-space, said: "We are delighted to mark the start of construction at Higher Nansloe and to continue Mi-space's relationship with Coastline Housing in providing high quality affordable homes for people in Cornwall."

Allister Young, Chief Executive of Coastline Housing, said: "We're incredibly proud of our Nansloe development. As well as bringing much-needed affordable homes to the people of Helston it will also include a Coastline Construct project – a classroom based on site where college students can come to learn the various construction trades as part of a structured course.

"It's shaping up to be a fantastic project that will change many lives for the better locally."
