Plans Approved For New £500m Chelsea FC Stadium

Chelsea Football Club (FC) have gained approval for a new £500 million stadium in Fulham.

Hammersmith & Fulham council's planning committee unanimously granted permission for the project on Wednesday, 11 January.

Designed by architects Herzog & De Meuron, proposals involve redeveloping Chelsea's current Stamford Bridge stadium by expanding the ground's capacity to 60,000 seats.

Features will include ancillary stadium-related uses such as a club shop and museum, as well as a separate restaurant/cafe use.

In a statement, the Club said: "We are grateful that planning permission was granted for the redevelopment of our historic home.

"The committee decision does not mean that work can begin on site. This is just the latest step, although a significant one, that we have to take before we can commence work, including obtaining various other permissions."
