BAM is continuing work to develop the world's first full-size gravity base foundations for wind turbines off the Northumberland coast.
EDF Energy Renewables via SPV Blyth Offshore Demonstrator Ltd has appointed the company to develop five foundations which will float and sink the base structures off the coast of Blyth.
Each 13,000 tonne concrete and steel foundation is being fabricated at the Shepherd Offshore Neptune Energy Park in North Tyneside.
BAM said the project "will demonstrate the potential for self-installing concrete gravity bases to provide economic foundations for large wind turbines in deeper water".
Once installed, the wind turbines will have a capacity of 41.5Mw and the project is due for completion in summer 2017.
