ECf Selects Strata To Deliver New Homes In Wakefield

English Cities Fund (ECf) has selected housebuilder Strata to deliver a new housing development in the centre of Wakefield.

The company will build 116 new homes close to Wakefield Westgate railway station as part of the Merchant Gate 'masterplan'.

ECf is a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General and the Homes and Communities Agency.

Planning consent for the former surface car park site was achieved in December last year.

Overall, Stata will build 100 two-bedroom townhouses and 16 'affordable' two-bedroom apartments.

Work is due to get underway on site next month, with the first homes ready to move in by May 2017.

Cllr Denise Jeffery, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Growth, said: "Merchant Gate is one of the key gateways into Wakefield city centre and a major area of regeneration in the city. The addition of new homes in this area is very positive news and will complement the work that has already taken place, making it a great place to live and work."
