Construction union UCATT has challenged Laing O'Rourke over their refusal to allow the union access to the Alder Hey hospital site in Liverpool.

UCATT delegate Jamie Bramwell also highlighted how Laing O'Rourke were refusing to allow the union access to workers employed on the project which is funded by public sector money.

Mr Bramwell said: "They [Laing O'Rourke] immediately banned UCATT from the project – absolutely scandalous in 21st century Britain. Doubly scandalous in an industry where 40 workers a year die on site, when union sites are proven to be safer sites."
