ISG Starts Building New Sainbury's Store In Kent

ISG has started a major project to construct a new store for Sainsbury's in Thanet, Kent.

The scheme is ISG's largest individual win for the supermarket to date, and the first Sainsbury's scheme to trial the effectiveness of a comprehensive Building Information Modelling (BIM) process.

The win follows the completion of more than 40 projects for Sainsbury's by ISG during a six year relationship, including new stores, extensions and refurbishments.

Sainsbury's will trial intelligent 3-D modelling on the Thanet scheme, as the supermarket reviews the widespread roll out of BIM across its future construction projects.

The 107,000 sq ft store will be delivered over a two phase programme, which initially sees ISG build the new steel frame store-on-stilts and fuel filling station on a site adjacent to Sainsbury’s existing Thanet outlet, which remains open during this period. Once the new store is completed and a new link road constructed, ISG will sensitively demolish the older building and carry out a range of hard and soft landscaping finishes across the site.
