London Underground has awarded Balfour Beatty two new frameworks.
The framework will bring a £250 million power upgrade across the entire tube network.
The first framework is for the provision and maintenance of high voltage cabling and the second will provide and maintain substations. The cabling framework consists of four lots split into categories of work such as cable design and survey and the substation framework consists of five lots covering categories including civil works, design and ventilation works.
Contracts awarded through the frameworks will include the design and installation of power electrification equipment and the provision of electrical infrastructure for the ongoing roll-out of onboard air-conditioning to bring more reliable and comfortable journeys to millions of passengers every year.
Mark Griffiths, Balfour Beatty Managing Director, Power Systems, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded these framework appointments and to have been recognised as first place contractor in seven out of the total nine framework lots awarded putting us in prime place to bid for initial work. Our longstanding relationship with London Underground Limited, directly employed workforce and our in-house manufacturing facility give us the ability to provide a safer, cost effective delivery of electrification works for London's tube network."
