Interserve Engineering Services has secured a £10.5m contract to design and install the mechanical and electrical services in a new production facility for the confectionery giant, HARIBO.
The 30,700 sq.m. three-storey manufacturing unit and four-storey office facility in Castleford, Wakefield, adjacent to the M62 motorway, will be built by Wates Construction.
Once operational, the facility will produce more than 48,000 tonnes of sweets a year and is set to create 286 jobs in the area.
Managing Director of HARIBO UK, Herwig Vennekens, commented: "After two years of planning it's great to finally get to the stage where we are setting the foundations that support our plans for growth within the UK.
"This investment in a new facility will enhance HARIBO's production capabilities and help us to meet the growing demand for our products."
The project, which was competitively secured with Wates Construction, builds on Interserve Engineering Services' (IES) already exemplar track record in the production and manufacturing sector.
IES will adopt procedures which enhance HARIBO's rigorous environmental control strategy, thereby developing an essential, robust controlled environment.
