A traditional topping out ceremony has been held to celebrate a landmark in the construction of the £25 million Carmelite Riverside development on London's Victoria Embankment.
Morgan Sindall hosted the ceremony to mark a key milestone in the 135,000 sq ft development for Orion Capital Managers and Quadrant Estates. The project will transform the Grade II listed building, which was, for many decades, home to Associated Newspapers Ltd, publishers of the Evening News and the Daily Mail.
The age-old Scandinavian practice of "topping out" is designed to protect the building and shield it from harm. During the ceremony, the final piece of concrete on the development was laid into place by Quadrant Estates director, Graham Tyler.
Mr Tyler, said: "The redevelopment of Carmelite Riverside has been a great success. The building will be completed on schedule this May when we will welcome Hachette UK, who will occupy the whole building. Later this year we will also complete 100 Cheapside, an exciting new building in the heart of the City of London."
