Kier apprentice Dominic Batty is celebrating after winning the Senior Wall and Floor category in the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Skillbuild competition.
Dominic, who lives in Barnsley, came first out of six students, and is now anxiously waiting to hear whether he has succeeded in getting through to the next round – a three-day national event held in Birmingham.
Commenting on his win, Dominic, who was put forward for the competition by Barnsley College where he receives his training, said: "I was pleased to be put forward for this competition and proud of my achievements so far."
Having completed his NVQ Level 3 in plastering with Kier in 2011, Dominic, 20, was keen to further develop his skills with the company and is now carrying out NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in floor and wall tiling. His winning entry in the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Skillbuild competition consisted of a 3D design using six colours, which was marked on design, layout and angle accuracy.
