Basildon based housebuilder Redrow has been chosen by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) as their development partner for 'Nethermayne' in Basildon, Essex.
The HCA has confirmed Redrow Homes will be their development partner, subject to completion of legal contracts, for the residential development of land owned by the HCA and South Essex College (SEC) at Dry Street, Nethermayne.
Around 700 new homes will form part of a wider redevelopment, which will also include a new primary school, public open space, highways improvements and land for St Luke's Hospice.
Outline planning consent for 725 homes was resolved for approval in June and a detailed planning application is expected to be submitted by Redrow in late 2013 / early 2014, which the public will get a chance to view and make comment on. Some initial investigation and site survey works will be undertaken across the site from mid-August.
Keith Parrett, Managing Director at Redrow Homes (South East), said: "We are delighted to have been chosen as the development partner and look forward to working alongside the HCA, Basildon Borough Council and South Essex College to bring much needed new housing to the area.
"We believe that this location has great potential for a sustainable new neighbourhood, which would make a considerable contribution to meeting local housing needs and have a strong emphasis on quality family homes.
"In addition, we believe our proposed development would boost the local economy with the injection of money and circa 1,000 jobs during construction and will bring wider economic benefits to existing shops and facilities."
